My 4th grader is loving the ease of learning vocabulary in this book. It’s our first using this curriculum. I’m loving the repetition of the words, using it in different ways, the applicable age appropriate essays, and the usefulness of the words. It is perfect to go through one chapter a week and test spelling also. They also include Latin roots and “factoids” that he finds helpful in understanding origins and meaning. Additionally, the definitions include example sentences, alternate definitions, and how to change to a different form ( noun, verb, adjective). Some chapters have a crossword, some a riddle code which adds to variation and increases his interest. Also, the list of vocabulary words for each chapter are re-written on every page of that chapter so he doesn’t need to glib back to the initial definition list unless he’s stuck and has to re-read definitions for alternate meanings.I don’t super love the sentence challenges at the end as not all are intuitive and it makes my son question his confidence of his knowledge. We’ve decided he can re-word his answers to show comorehension. The paper tears easily so he needs to use pen instead of mechanical pencil, which isn’t a problem for us.Overall, we would recommend it.

Love this brand for homeschooling. Make sure you check out the brand website to find out what numbers are associated with what grades!! They have changed the pattern of number to grade over the years and you want to make sure you are ordering the right grade for your child. Woul d also be great as a supplement to public school for children who are struggling with vocabulary, writing or reading comprehension.

We homeschool and this is our go-to vocabulary book. They are more challenging than your average vocabulary (Spectrum, etc) book. I do not buy the teacher guide. We've been through books 2-5 now and they have been well worth it.

I personally love Wordly Wise and think it's a great mixed resource for vocabulary, writing, and reading comprehension reinforcement. As a teacher, I have recommended it to many parents. I know some parents HATE the design of the exercises (thus four stars), but from a teacher's perspective it's the perfect practice resource.

Wonderful for boosting student vocabulary for state reading tests. Students really learn these words because they must use them in several ways, including finding antonyms, synonyms, using them in sentences and identifying meaning through context.

My son is autistic with aspergers and PDA profile, and also has dyslexia and speech delay. We homeschool, and in grade 7, is very behind in vocab so i went with level 5. We started with the book, but switched to online. this program is great because it makes the child think and apply the words. There is a week worth of activities to practice using the words, and pre and post tests. After every 4 sections (i think) there is review of all words covered in those 4 sections/weeks. A friend recommended this to me, and i love it! I was able to purchase thru a homeschool co-op to get the online at a discounted price. One homeschool friend said she didn't use this because it's evolution based, and not creationism/the Bible based. Jesus is my savior, and although that's a downfall of this curriculum in my opinion, my son understands creationism vs evolution, and this curriculum is so worth it. If my son was younger and didn't understand evolutionism, I might think twice. But if Creationism word view is important to you, and your child not old enough to understand, that would be my only concern. I'd also mention the computer based version is a little quirky in that the child has to exactly type in the right word with right tense. Since my child is dyslexic, he was failing the tests. I sit with him now and help him type and spell, and make sure he rereads the sentences to verify the word has the right tense. So although the online was an attempt to see how my child would do independently on a computer based curriculum, he is not independent with it. On the 3rd try it shows you how many letters, and he will could the letters instead of trying to make sense of what word fits best. So I'm right next to him helping him with it. I also like having the hard copy too, because I give him the list of words each week in his folder and make him read the words on the sheet for homework. Also, i probably could've gotten away with using level 6, but level 5 he knows half the words so I was hoping it would be review and build confidence.

We really like it. Good written excerpts which provide context for the words. May a little easy for my upcoming 5th grader but she enjoys the book and does the work independently. The best vocabulary curriculum I've seen but haven't seen that many. Secular worldview

These are great books for homeschooling. The child gets a lot of opportunities in each lesson to use each vocabulary word many times so they really get the meaning of it. Like they say... Use a word three times and you own it. A great learning tool.

Well written, beautiful story! Characters are so well developed that you feel you know them personally. Heartbreaking, bittersweet read, but somehow so worth the telling. I simply cannot get enough of Shari Low’s books...... she touches on the most human aspects of her characters that make them not only believable but also memorable. Like many of her stories, the main character is confronted with a life altering challenge, and comes out on the other side a wiser and more beautiful human being for dealing with it in a courageous manner. Great writing!

This book was one of those books that makes you want to sit and read it from start to finish. I will definitely be looking for more books from this author. You really felt like you knew all of the characters.

A beautiful love story surrounded by unforgettable characters that you can not help but fall in love with. A story that will make you laugh, cry, grieve, and believe in love, and the power of friendship, and overall compassion for what you may perceive as the ultimate betrayal. I highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.

Maybe A Not Happy Ending Story but such a beautiful love story. Characters are flawed but so lovable. All of them, except a few! It's the second book I read from Shari Low, The Other Wives Club was quite different, more funny and I will read more books of this author.

Loved this story. It so reminded me of my marriage and the recent loss of my husband. I laughed and I cried, very easy read.

This book is a classic in its own right. Brunton was a Western writer and materialistic to begin. But he travels about in India, interviewing yogis (who are hard to reach). He writes about different traditions of yoga. He is most impressed by Ramana Maharshi. (Ramana is not really a yogi.) He interviews an astrologer who describes ancient Tibetan astrology, etc. This is a book that can be read over and over. Unfortunately Christians would not benefit much, unless they want to grow spiritually.Brunton also co-authored "Conscious Immortality", which includes much of Ramana Maharshi's teachings.

Throughout my spiritual quest, almost all the spiritual books I've read "came" to me at precise the right time. As the Buddha's saying goes "when the student is ready the teacher will appear. I still don't know how I came across this jewel, but all I can say is "what an amazing teacher"! Written in 1935. Thank you Paul Brunton you made me experience the India I dream about. Thank you for introducing me to Sri Ramana Maharshi. This book is not one that will be saved in one of the Kindle's folders, this is a book one needs to return to again and again, especially the last chapter: Tablets of forgotten truth.

As one who has read many spiritual books and is a follower of Paramhansa Yogananda, I was thrilled in reading PB's book on India. I was most impressed by his encounters with holy men who could perform wondrous feats. Most people from the west think that so-called miracles stopped with Jesus. I was captivated reading his accounts of meeting and interacting with the true holy men of India. His dealings with the phony conjurers was interesting and showed how relentless he had to be to find true saints. His written experiences were fully convincing and reflect just how much we have to learn about our abilities to move beyond the physical world we think is our only realm of operation. I recommend this book for anyone seeking a path to self-realization. It was a great read and very helpful to me.

A wonderful book merging travel, spiritual seeking, yoga, India, history and interesting personalities. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this from the point of view of a yoga teacher. I am old enough to find the prose easy and natural tho a bit formal, and it was such a joy to steep in Paul Brunton's style of searching and writing. A valuable testimony, and as pertinent today as ever. Highly recommend.

I came to this book after discovering Ramana Maharshi. Mr. Brunton does an excellent job of recounting his adventure to India. He also does an really good job of capturing the essence of the message which Ramana consistently delivered to any who had the good fortune to converse or encounter him. I am forever grateful to Mr. Brunton for detailing his adventure in India and for introducing us to the teachings of Ramana Maharshi!

It is a first hand experience of the quest for the hidden teachings of the sages in India. Paul Brunton's descriptive abilities are amazing in this regards.

This wonderful story, at first seeming so archaic, stuffy, arrogant, western . . . is more and more and more wonderful and then done. Naturally enough it belongs with available works of the great saint Ramana Maharshi. It does not seem possible that Maharshi is not still there to go and visit at Arunachala. Yet, it has been more than sixty years ago. Impossible and meaningless, that time. For new readers, the kindle version is without Brunton 's photos, so far as I can tell.

Read it, learn and use. Devoid of hocus pocus. I want to read more of Brunton. Was apparently a major influence on Carl Jung, though never given credit by Jung.

Walker tells the story of Harry Colebourn, a World War I soldier who came upon a man selling a baby bear at a train station (he had shot the cub's mother) and decided to adopt the animal. A veterinarian, Colebourn quickly became attached to the little bear he named Winnie (short for Winnipeg, Manitoba, Colebourn's company's hometown), who accompanied the soldier to a training camp in Quebec and became a favorite of the entire regiment. Winnie even went with the company to England when more soldiers were needed across the Atlantic. When Colebourn was sent into battle, he took Winnie to the London Zoo, where she was so gentle and tame that zookeepers sometimes let children ride on her back. There, Milne's young son, Christopher Robin, met her and fell in love, motivating Milne to pen the "Winnie-the-Pooh" books. Sweet, realistic illustrations, rendered in watercolor with pen and ink, lend the work an old-fashioned air, while a simple but gentle narrative provides readers with a sense of the emotional connection between Winnie and Colebourn. As a substitute teacher, I carry the book in my school bog to read to students when there is "gap" time. The first time I read it was to 2nd graders. When I finished reading, I asked them if they liked it. All nodded but one shook her head and said, "I didn't like it: I loved it!" Third graders, 1st grade students, even fifth graders were delighted. High praise.Great way to tie fiction and non-fiction together and throw in some geography and history, too.

While this book was ok, be sure to order the award-winning version of the story which is so beautifully and poignantly told! It's "Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear," by Lindsay Mattick. It's head and shoulders above this one. The story is told subtly and unfolds in a way that provides an element of surprise and awe. It is also told by family members of one of the principle characters, Harry Colebourn. Don't miss it!

I love the illustrations in this book, as well as the story behind Winnie-the-Pooh. My grandsons enjoy this book, the story, and the illustrations. It also includes some fascinating historical photos.

Love, love, love the story, the illustrations, and the whole idea that the story is based on truth! The end pages have prints of the real "Winnie" bear and Christopher Robin--very cool stuff.

Touchingly and beautifully illustrated and written, "Winnie" shows the bonds between animals and humans, in the form of a baby bear who responded with love to the solider who rescued her and to the regiment whose mascot she became. A legend from her days at the London Zoo, Winnie never forgot "her" soldier, who made certain she enjoyed a happy, safe life. Children and adults alike will love this book.

My 7 year son and I both really enjoyed this book. We both learned new things about Winnie-the-pooh. Easy to read, informative, and the art work was great. Pictures of Winnipeg, the real Christopher Robins, etc were a great addition. I highly recommend this book!

Another version of the Winnie the Pooh true story of the soldier who cared for this bear cub. I have read it twice and love the story. Can't wait to continue to share with my Grand children

This is a most fascinating story. Have read the series to all my many grands. But a bunch of them (the great readers) are getting this book even tho they are older. So fun and different! I am almost 80 and had never run across this book before Amazon! Thank u!!
