About the Author

F. B. MEYER (1847-1929) was an internationally known British minister of the Gospel, a public servant, and an evangelist for more than sixty years. A good friend of D. L. Moody, he began preaching at Christ Church in London, when there were only 100 regular attendees. Within two years he was preaching regularly to over 2,000 people. Charles Spurgeon once spoke of him, saying "Meyer preaches as a man who has seen God face to face." Meyer was also active in the temperance movement, worked to close more than 500 houses of prostitution, and formed a prison aid society. Meyer authored more than 40 books, including biographies, devotional commentaries, sermon volumes and expository works. He also authored several pamphlets and edited a number of magazines.

I bought this book as a present for a very special friend. I've read this book.....and loved it!!! The author, F. B. Meyer is very honest and has such a unique love for his Lord Jesus Christ. this book is a great inspiration!

F.B. Meyer, along with Spurgeon, is one of the great preachers of his day, and there aren't any of them anymore. You can read both of them, and marvel at the insight that they have into the meaning of the scriptures, and the ability they have to mine the treasures within. Kindle has enough material from both of them to provide years of reading and growth for anyone who desires a closer walk and companionship with Jesus.

Thoughtful book. Updated grammar used is helpful since it was written in the late 1800's. I think Dallas Willard's book "Hearing God" was better for practical advice on hearing guidance.But both books add valuable insight.

I am interested in gaining insights from people who have demonstrated in practical ways how their relationship with God has transformed their life. Knowing that God loves us and wants to be involved in our lives can be a powerful motivation to discover ways to be sure you recognize God's presence and are effectively following His guidance. This book had a great deal of helpful and spiritually challenging insights that will assist my daily life. I would recommend it to anyone serious about the pursuit of biblical information that has the potential to change their lives in positive ways.

This is an encouraging book that talks about the Holy Spirit as a person and how to have a deeper walk with the Lord. It's short to the point ,and easy to understand. I was encouraged,some of these older theologians can help young believers that want to grow in grace understand better what it means to walk with God.

Grateful to have this book, so overlooking all the type-os. Really a lot of them, more than any book I've ever read. But grateful someone reprinted it. It is educating me. I will re-read this one.

Having grown my share of sprouts in mason jars (lots of rinsing; very little output + associated health risks with e.coli and salmonella) and experimented with indoor micro greens (complicated and expensive) I was delighted to discover Peter Burke's simple soil sprout method. Follow the directions outlined in the book and you can't go wrong; you will be harvesting ultra-fresh, delicious organic greens from your windowsill in less than 10 days. For me it is 7 or 8 days, which I think is impressive. The author clearly knows his subject and has thought through every aspect.The book is comprehensive, well-organized, and generously and helpfully illustrated. The author's tone is friendly and encouraging. Getting started is simple, just gather up a short list of supplies -I had almost everything at home. If aluminum foil pans don't appeal to you, visit your local thrift store or a yard sale and pick up a couple dozen cereal bowls to use for planters. Book includes contingency plans for when your schedule goes off course and your indoor garden gets neglected.Nice recipe section inspires reader to use soil sprouts in salads, stir fries, soups, dip, tempura, sandwiches, wraps, and the workday lunchbox. Seed by Seed index is a goldmine of info for 25+ types of greens you can grow.The author recommends beginning with buckwheat, pea, sunflower, daikon, and broccoli, which I did. I have since added popcorn, Chinese cabbage, adzuki beans, Tuscan black kale, garnet amaranth, purple kohlrabi, and a French Garden mixture which includes clover, cress, arugula and lentils. Without exception every bowl I have planted has yielded a beautiful "head" of greens...and yellows, reds, pinks and even purples and I am shocked at how easy and enjoyable it is! I wish I had thought of this method! But since I did not, I am glad Peter Burke did.

In addition to being an outdoor organic gardener for over 40 years from Central America to Alaska, I have done sprouts in jars using a rinsing method, and I have grown micro greens in winter in standard seed flat trays. Peter Burke's soil sprouting method is infinitely superior to the jars, and it is faster in terms of usable veggies than micro greens. I suspect the result is not as nutrient dense as the micro greens, but it is clearly a very valuable growing technique since it requires much less time, space and light.I purchased and read the book about three weeks ago. It is well written and reflects the author's long term thought and experimentation with his subject. The illustrations are great.I determined to bow to his obvious wisdom and follow his instructions exactly as written. As a result we have enjoyed large quantities of kale, sunflower, and broccoli sprouts in salads and smoothies for not quite two weeks.What will I change? I am not going to use the aluminum baking pans long term because of concerns of toxicity and cost of replacement. But the SIZE of the pans is perfect. The soil depth is needed to keep things from drying out, and the quantity of one variety produced in the pans is just right for two of us. Also, since I have a soil heating mat, I'm trying some bottom heat to get more uniform sprouting, but the sprouts are fine without the heat mat.One reason I believe the microgreens are more nutrient dense is they grow longer, about three weeks total, and have more time to begin taking upnutrients in my soil mix. I did add the thin layer of compost and kelp meal under the peat moss and vermiculite as Peter directed, but I'm wondering is the soil sprouts are metabolizing any of those nutrients or just utilizing the seed resources. If the latter is the case, the quality of the seed alone would determine the nutrient density of the soil sprouts. I'm going to grow some controls without the kelp and compost and see if there is any visible difference. Perhaps the author is aware of some chemical analysis done of sprouts that would answer the question?Eliot Coleman describes somewhere the French market gardeners who placed a clump of inverted sod under cucumbers to rot and enhance fertility. I will save the root mass, soil, compost and kelp "brick" left over after harvest for that same purpose.Finally, I think the method is a wonderful addition to our personal resiliency. A bag of sunflower seeds in storage could yield enormous quantities of fresh vegetables any time of the year in a pinch.Thanks Peter Burke!

I really appreciate this straightforward guide to growing your own salad green sprouts. I have wanted to grow salad greens indoors for quite a while but I didn't want to deal with the trouble of having to set up lights and the long wait from seed to salad. I find the salad green sprouts to be the perfect fit for what I want because they grow quickly with only the light from a window. They taste delicious and are much easier to grow indoors than salad greens.This book does a great job of going over all the details of growing indoor salad sprouts as well as describing what seed varieties are best for sprouts. It's totally worth buying if you like the idea of growing your own sprouts! I spend about 10-15 min a day preparing my salad green sprouts (you plant new pans every day so you have a daily supply), and it's really as easy as the book describes.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! . I am planning to go commercial, as I need supplementary income badly, and this is the ticket. From fearful of my financial future, I am feeling calm and confident! Mr. Burke is so completely thorough about every aspect of this NEW (to me) craft that I am amazed he missed one very small point. You plant a teaspoon, or a table spoonful of seed, but the sellers give you packets with 100 or 200 seeds, or ounces or pounds of seeds, and I don't know how many tablespoons of sunflower seeds are in a half pound of seed. I'll figure this soon enough. I will make myself a chart of seed sizes, quantities, and weights, I guess.But , after all, this book is utterly fantastic! It is so complete that I feel rotten about complaining. There are no other books about this sure fire method.Buy this book, it could change your life! It did mine.

I just finished reading the Stamp’s story. It is a story like no other that I have heard. Regardless of what side of medicine you choose to support, traditional or non-traditional, do yourself a favor and take the time to read this moving account. If nothing else, it will give you the determination and willpower to fight. We have been created with ‘eternity in our hearts’ (Eccl. 3:11) and this heartwarming account bears this out. The Stamps are a true inspiration.

I loved this book! Having lost my mother and mother in law to cancer I know the sad truth of conventional treatment. This is such good information to have knowing that we will most all be affected by this horrible disease. Us or our loved one. I believe we must build our bodies up to repel all illnesses. Thank you Rodney and Paige for giving us a look at what you went through. This is good information.

This book is fantastic. From the first page to the last. Having been recently diagnosed with cancer I can relate to the fear and need to find cures that dont include chemo. Very helpful information and guides to let your body do its job. Paige you are an amazing partner and so brave. If my husband was here to support me I am sure he would be doing the same thing you do. It’s important to have someone there for support encoragement and love. I can’t wait for the additional books you are publishing. The how tos are important when searching the internet is frustrating and misleading. Lots of snake oil for sale and everyone has a friend who was cured by something. The determination and sheer will to thrive (not just survive) the authors have in this book was so relatable, I could not put it down. Finished it in a few hours and will read it again if my will ever wavers. Nothing they did was easy as far as surviving the disease, and they built an empire while doing it! This and the love they have for each other is just rare. I will be sharing this book with others too.

As someone who is dealing with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, thanks to this book I know that this is the protocol that I want to follow. Rodney and Paige graciously let us into their lives to show us what is possible in the way of true healing for cancer. While I know that following this protocol will be far from easy, the Paiges showed us that the rewards are well worth all of the hard work! Many, many thanks to Rodney and Paige for taking the time to share their stories with us to enable us to regain our health and realize what is truly important in life. You won't regret reading this book and will find it almost impossible to put down until you've finished reading it cover to cover!!

This book is so awesome. I enjoyed reading it. In fact I couldn’t put it down. I have never had cancer but I would like to protect myself from ever getting it because so many of my loved ones have passed away as they lost their battles with cancer. Thank you for this book of blessings and encouragement!

This book is an eye opening read. I lost my mom to cancer twelve years ago this October. I remember the day she and I were alone in her hospital room talking about how she was going to beat it. The doctor walked in on our conversation and in the most blunt words I’d ever heard he told my mom that she may as well come to terms with the fact that she’s going to die because nothing is going to make her cancer go away. Just like that I saw life die in my mother’s eyes and watched her fade into nothing. Within two weeks she passed away. I don’t think I will ever forgive that doctor for killing the hope and fight she had. I wish I could have read this book back then. Rodney and Paige stamps gives the readers an intimate look into their lives and the battle with cancer. I love that they focus on letting the body heal itself. I appreciate that they shared both sides of their story.

This is the book my 6th grader's band teacher chose to use for their middle school band.I played a different brass instrument in the 1980's and at times I think that the book could make it more interesting for the kids and the progress is quite long winded.I can't fairly say if this issue to the book or the children's efforts or teacher. I think something must be going right because the band in middle school has tripled since their new teacher with his enthusiasm and the instructional book joined our district.I would like to see more vocabulary taught alongside the lessons as well as various interesting bits of information about instruments,composers as well as popular music terms. I think it's also very important that they focus on reading the time signature early on.The book appears to be a great book, those are my suggestions for newer editions in the future. Because my son's band has grown 3 grimes as large within a year they're adjusting!

My daughter is thrilled to get started using this book recommended to her by her band teacher. It has beautiful and easy to understand explanation on how to use the instrument, as well as music for her to practice as she learns. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to play an instrument!

I am a retired senior and an active musician, I have played (traditional jazz) for many years and play several gigs every week, but I recently sustained an injury to my left thumb (overuse-playing banjo) and may need to change instruments so I am a beginning trombone student. I will probably need some lessons asap, but this book seems like a good place to start working/learning on my own. It's working for me for the 'basics' and I would recommend it.

My son's trombone book. He's in 6th grade and is learning a lot from the book itself with out his teacher.

I've been using it with my beginning band students this year and I like it. A solid beginner's band book - goes over the positions / fingerings for each instrument with a chart in the back, and introduces the notes in an easy, logical order that isn't too fast or slow. I would buy it again. Only negative is I was surprised it's not available at a lower price, even used. But I guess that speaks to the popularity of the series.

Great beginner book for youth and adult because it's simple to understand but not juvenile. I bought for both my grandson and myself. You just won't go wrong using the book to learn the fingering positions, the notes and symbols. It even have the conductors diagram.What I truly love is that the notes names are not on the notes, now it is at the bottom of the page but not on the notes itself.

This is what the band director wanted for my 6th grader. My daughter was excited to get it. It looks to be very easy to follow. Nicely done for a beginner trombonist.

My son plays trombone and needed this particular book for band.

"The 21 Success Secrets of Self-made Millionaires" is no secret. The concepts (or "secrets"), such as "go the extra mile" and "develop a reputation for speed and dependability" are common sense. What I do like about this short book is that it is short (less than 100 pages) and the chapters are about 1-2 pages each (so they're really not chapters). However, the fact that the "chapters" are indeed short and easy to read will make this book more attractive to people who are uneducated or eager to quickly read this short book and (hopefully) apply their new-found knowledge to their work/jobs and personal lives (to make themselves and this world a better place to live in). Do I recommend this book? Yes, if you're a fan of no-nonsense, get to the point knowledge sharing (like me). No, if you're interested in peeling back more layers and learning more in-depth knowledge of the knowledge and skills required to learn the important aspects of finance and money.

Long ago while growing up in Chicago, I read two books which have had a lasting impact on my personal and professional development: Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People and Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich. I make it a point to re-read both at least once a year; also Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography. My guess (only a guess) is that these three books have also had a positive and lasting impact on Brian Tracy. Their influence is suggested in this book as are the Four Gospels and Saint Paul's various Letters in the New Testament.However, we all realize that each of us must assume full responsibility for our successes and failures in life. The most valuable lessons we learn are from our own experiences, especially from failures. Tracy notes that "more than 90% of all financially successful people today started out broke or nearly broke. The average self-made millionaire has been bankrupt or nearly bankrupt 3.2 times." Hmmm. He chose self-made millionaires as the focal point of this book "because these people had demonstrated social qualities and behaviors that were observable and measurable." He offers 21 "success secrets," most of which are really not secrets. I would be very surprised if any one of them is unfamiliar to anyone who reads this book.For me, this is the key point: No matter what we read and how carefully we read it, now matter how much wisdom is provided by what we read, NOTHING beneficial will result unless and until we embrace appropriate values, then make decisions and take appropriate actions which are guided and informed by those values.Tracy insists that success is predictable. I presume to add, that the same is true of failure. "Your greatest responsibility is to dream big dreams, decide exactly what you want, make a plan to achieve it, practice the strategies in this book, take action every single day in the direction of your dreams and goals, and resolve [as Churchill urges] to never, never, never give up." Throughout his book, Tracy does indeed recommend specific strategies to follow and includes a series of Action Exercises to complete. In that event, "You become unstoppable and your success becomes inevitable."Hill, Carnegie, Franklin, and countless others do indeed share the credit for whatever I may have achieved in my life thus far but only I am responsible for what remains of that life.It is not enough to read and admire Tracy's book. As I have previously indicated, the challenge is to embrace appropriate values, then make decisions and take appropriate actions which are guided and informed by those values. The extent to which we respond to that challenge will determine whether or not we succeed or fail when pursuing whatever our dreams may be.

A must have. I bought this book on Amazon, and have been following the steps to success and it is working so far. It is a motivation though and won't absolutely tell you what to do to become a millionaire but will encourage you to take steps to success.

I have been a long time reader of self improvement books, as well as many finance books. So, I was very interested in reading a book that would seem to have them both in one read.I was very disapointed, although some research may have gone into where the author actually figured out the "21 Secrets", it seems to me like he went to the self help section and pulled 21 phrases out of the air and wrote short essays on them. I don't need a cross-referenced table and 30 page bibliography, but this seems a little fishy.For those that are looking for insight into what it really makes a millionare and how to get there, I would recommend reading the "Millionare Next Door". For those that are looking for other information on self improvement anything by Anthony Robbins, the "7 habits..." by Steven Covey, or Napolean Hill's "How to Make Friends and Influence People" are great reads.Overall, it seems like this is the Cliff Notes version of all the other books. Which is great if all you need are motivational phrases to get you to the top, but if you really want to learn and hold on to something you should look elsewhere.

Well worth a read even if you've heard it all before. I've tarted implimenting the excellent advice.

If you want to know the NOLS material before you take the class this is the book to get. Covers everything and does it well.

Great book, but somewhat terrifying, especially if you actually venture into the back country like I do. Be it ski mountaineering, or hunting horseback, so much can go wrong out there. I suggest you buy a personal rescue beacon (or maybe study emergency medicine at an accredited school) before adding this to your library. Seriously though, books like these are invaluable.

I had a copy of the previous book, but wanted the most current information!I am currently reading the book in preparation for being re- certified in Wilderness First Aid.The book is very thorough, but easy to understand, and includes everything I should need to know for WFA.Thank you!

I am getting a lot out of the book and would have given a better review if it wasn't for how the book was delivered. I purchased the book new but when I opened the package 1. There was a hand written note that said "Don't Touch" 2. Pages are stained from something.

The book is great, and it's the required textbook for my outdoors pursuit college credit class. However, the ebook is the 5th edition while the paperback is the 6th edition. Due to this reason and the fact that I cannot carry heavy books with me, I would only give it 3 stars. It matters to me a lot since my instructor asked for the 6th edition and not the 5th edition. If the writer would decide to have the 6th edition on kindle - I might make it into 5 stars, that is if he does it while I'm taking the class, which started today, and not after my class will end (December 2017)

has a lot of good info on wilderness medicine, is comprehensive. worth the read

This book is great, and the E-Book formatting is just fine. I have a fair bit of backcountry experience, and I've taken a few wilderness first aid course. It's nice to have a handy reference in my phone on the chance that something happens (Yes - I usually carry my phone on extended trips, but at least it's off).

A very good, but sometimes sad, write up about a lost lifestyle-the homesteader's of remote Alaska along the Yukon River watershed. Government rules and regulations eliminated the homesteader's in this area, and in doing so allowed many historical sites and dwellings to be destroyed.

Thought it would be more about the experience of paddling the river. Rapids, exciting paddling stretches, etc. It is a great read if you want the history of the Yukon and the places people have lived along its banks and why they came to the Yukon. I would not recommend it if you a re looking for paddling adventure.

Dan O'Neill is an adventurer, a historian, a "floater" (as Yukon River canoe campers are called), and an advocate for a people whose names may be last seen in these pages. This book is ostensibly a story about a float trip O'Neill makes from Dawson, in Canada's Yukon Territory, to Circle, in Alaska, through the Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve, administered by the National Parks Service. Actually, it is seven trips condensed into one. O'Neill is the spiritual descendant of John McPhee, whom he quotes extensively as the base-line Yukon River interpreter. The reader may be forgiven if he believes that he will be treated to a combination of float trip travelogue and history of the places and people who make the country what it is. Little by little we learn that O'Neill wants to do more than report; he intends to make a statement and to leave an impact.O'Neill makes (and re-makes) a compelling case that the National Parks Service is egregiously mismanaging the wilderness it is supposed to be protecting. The NPS faces the same conflict in the Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve that it has in other national parks. How do you preserve a natural area for people to enjoy in perpetuity when each person who visits incrementally damages the area? O'Neill argues that the Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve differs so radically from the nation's other parks that it requires fresh thinking and a more tailored conservation regime. The lament implicit in the title is that this dramatically attractive land, inhospitable as it is, once was home to scores of rugged, subsistence pioneers, and could safely be so again under a more creative land use policy.The enduring legacy of Dan O'Neill's book will not be his administrative prescriptions, though, but his deft, economical, and often sardonic descriptions of the land and its people. We learn a great deal about the geologic history of the region, including the fact that prior to the last ice age, the river ran southward, opposite its current direction. We learn where the gold-bearing strata are located and how they were exploited during the gold rush. We trap martin and lynx, and catch king salmon to feed ourselves and chum salmon to feed our dogs, We meet characters that couldn't conceivably be made up, like Dick Cook, whom we admire for his resourcefulness and indomitable spirit, and whose body we last see face down in the river that supported him. We poke through trash middens in a sort of contemporary archaeology, and learn how to handle irascible settlers and even more irascible grizzlies.O'Neill treats us to a world which few of us are likely ever to see. "Moose, wolf, and bear have signed the mud registry in recent weeks, and I make my own prints, climb the bank, and look for a trail..." He faithfully reports and interprets his observations and gently constructs his arguments. Regrettably, however, he is not a gifted writer, and this deficiency occasionally shows, as in his purple descriptions of scenery. "The river is molten gold...the sky is a dazzling, luminous yellow where fiery clouds flash gilded edges...then I remember that the whole spinning world is a miracle, and that sometimes reality dawns more golden than dreams." And then there is the occasional error that an editor should have caught, "Sudden death killed forty-four of the fifty-five Alaskans who died in boating accidents between 2001 and 2003..." The reader may well wonder how death can be the cause of death.I recommend "A Land Gone Lonesome" to armchair "floaters" and all who are curious about the forced depopulation of the upper Yukon watershed. You will meet the colorful denizens of a world just recently past, and the remarkable stage they have exited. And if you become motivated to visit the Yukon for yourself, you can thank McPhee and O'Neill for their contrasting depictions of the Yukon River and its fatal attraction.

In A Land Gone Lonesome Dan O'Neill floats the Yukon River area visited by John McPhee over 30 years earlier. The differences over time are striking as are the differences in the authors. While McPhee was a perceptive visitor spinning a great tale, O'Neill is a long time resident, and his narration reveals a deep love of the land coupled with a keen eye towards historical perspective. He discusses in detail the effects of the National Park Service's administration, or perhaps mis-administration.If you liked McPhee, you'll love O'Neill. O'Neill has a comfortable free-flowing style appropriate for a tale about Alaska's greatest river. If you are into rural lifestyles, Alaska history, the Yukon River, or Alaska wilderness - this is a must read.

This book gave me a good view of bureaucracy at work. It's a before and after view of the rivers feeding the Yukon and the people living in a subsistence way of life. Gradually, as the government moved in and moved the subsistence folks out and now no one lives out there. A way of life destroyed. The river was full of life, but now with no one living out there, it's go e lonsome.

Not what I thought, although a canoe is the chosen form of transport this book is more a history of the Yukon that a paddling adventure. If the Yukon and the adventurers who settled there are your interest this is great book if you are interested in canoe/kayak adventures then this is not the book for you. This came up on numerous website searches for canoe/kayak adventures so not the authors fault more poor classification.

"A LAND GONE LONESOME" describes what happened in the years after "COMING INTO THE COUNTRY" depicted the alteration of life styles of "bush-dwellers, hermits, miners, trappers, and visitors to the region by the lawyers, politicians, and bureaucrats divvying up Alaska to make way for the pipeline from the North Slope. Shortly before McPhee's book, I kayaked through this region three times on my finally journey of 2,000 miles down the river to the ocean, so these books were of interest and informative to me as I knew some of the people affected by the new rulings of government power. These books depict a lot about how those in political power use and abuse those powers to force their personal ideas and philosophies on others trying to escaped the clutches of such webs of governmental control.

Ahh, the unintended consequences of self perpetuating bureaucracy. Alaska is different. Her parks and protected areas should be as well. Great narrative, incredible characters, and a harrowing bear attack. Sad that my generation will be the last to witness people of this mettle- who are able to engage in a true subsistence lifestyle that requires the tenacity and character described in these pages.
