I make for an odd survivalist, facing sixty and a knee replacement. But Creek Stewart makes you feel like you don't have to be a Navy Seal to learn a few things about nature and disaster preparedness. I've read a surprising number of these sort of books because I'm an historian, and in a way, they're related - when the Puritans couldn't get wheat to grow, they went greening and made desperation flour out of acorns, if they had to. But these are skills that people seem to be losing; most guys don't even carry a pocket knife anymore, which was a universal for my father's generation, with all those ex-Boy Scouts. Even a lot of Greenies out there don't seem to realize just how dangerous a desert hike can be. Creek Stewart does know, and he's a great teacher.A lot of it is common sense, sense that isn't so common anymore. But a lot of it is stuff that probably wouldn't have occurred to you, particularly if imagination hasn't taken you to a particular sort of disaster. Like here in Indiana - sooner or later, the New Madrid fault is going to go, and it'll be worse than any earthquake in California. "Sheltering in place" may not be an option, because the "place" could be rubble. Follow his advice and you'll have everything you need, and Stewart will always try to save you money, too, recommending the simplest and cheapest solutions. Now that I've read this, I'm going to pick up a couple others of his books. Definitely above the average.

How to Get the Most Out of B.O.B."Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag: Your 72-Hour Disaster Survival Kit" by Creek Stewart is a well-thought-out book that is clearly formatted and illustrated to help convey the information within. The format of this book reminds me of another excellent book titled "Build the Perfect Survival Kit" by John McCann, that I also highly recommend. This book is excellent for the novice and experienced Prepper, as well as the conventional camper and survivalist. This book provides an excellent blueprint for compiling components for a Bug Out Bag (BOB), as well as selecting the perfect BOB to carry all the discussed gear and components. The gear discussed in this book covers everything from field camping tools (pocket tools, ax, shovels, etc.), hygienic items, various environmental clothing, lightweight shelters (tarps, etc.), field bedding (sleeping bags, hammocks, etc.), water purification, rations and ignition systems for fire making. All the equipment discussed in this book predominantly focuses on the items being lightweight and provide multiple use items, which is a common theme when selecting items for survival situation. Additionally, this book provides a host of inset text boxes providing valuable survival tips, in addition to the information instructing you how to develop your own BOB. This book also had a few interesting chapters that stood out to me that I think are worth mentioning. Chapter 13 covers information on protection and self-defense, with some discussion of the self-defense mentality. Although this chapter was very brief it did however cover all the salient points, as this topic alone could be its own book. Another interesting chapter covered some basic information about bugging out with pets. This is a topic I have not seen covered in other books and found it enlightening. Finally, chapter 17 on mental and physical preparedness was another chapter providing the reader basic information on the topic, which is not generally covered in book of this type. I personally believe this to be one of the most important chapters in the book, without a strong body it is hard to keep a strong mind. And the mind is the most important tool the Prepper or survivalist will ever have. Overall I highly recommend this book and believe that the experienced and novice will learn something from this book.

This was an easy to read book that made me rethink my personal needs for a bag out bag (BOB)/scenario. I am the father of three girls...one older and two younger. I lost my 16 yo son last year and it turned my world inside out. Him and I had always discussed and shared lots of ideas and "what if's" and we were both always aware of his mother and the other girls at all times. It didn't matter whether we were on a country hike, at the park, or in the mall. If I had point he had my back and vise versa. Now I seem overwhelmed keeping my eyes open and on my family. I also had to rethink a bug out scenario as he was definitely a very strong part of the support system. Creek Stewart's book helps compartmentalize and outline every part of a well supplied bag...one that is designed perfectly for me and my family. Probably the biggest thing I learned is that your bug out bag is dynamic not static...it changes with you and your families needs and the seasons of the year. I have also purchased Bug Out Vehicles as I am modifying an 05 Excursion and Bug Out Survival Skills. I am just getting ready to begin reading them, but I already know they'll be a valuable resource. I am sending this soft cover booklet to a relative in Europe who has never seen Magic Eye photos. Once you learn to focus....the photos are easy and FUN.I leave mine out on the coffee table, and when people come to visit, they ALWAYS pick up the book and ask me "what is this?" I probably will buy a few more and give them as Christmas stocking stuffers.Fun book !!

I have been a fan of these books for years! Now my students love them too! You have to practice a bit. First, hold your nose to the book, and then pull it away very slowly. It will take several tries. It explains it all in the instructions. You absolutely cannot study the picture to see a hint as to the "floater" or 3-D effect. I have tried and tried - which is part of the fun. I also love that they show you the picture "answer key" in the back of the book.

I bought this as a gift for my daughter's family and she told me they are having fun with it, minus one family member who just can't get it and thinks everyone else is playing a joke on her. Hahahaha!!!!!!! :-)

Nice coffee table book- never fails to intrigue anyone who visits, although it could be tricky for people to view the 3D images. I don't know about whether this will actually imrpove eye sight, but it is a nice way to get some family quality time.

This fun book will keep the kids entertained off and on for hours as they try to find the images on each page.

I love Magic Eye. I can find the pictures, but most aren’t distinctive enough to figure out what on earth they are. Lots resemble birthday cakes, of all things...

The style of the author is superficial and the examples are shallow (except for the chapter on On-line games). The code printed in this book needs a lot of debugging if one were to execute them.In the chapter on "Servlets and RMI" the author actually tries to convince that multiple inheritance is possible in Java. Obviously that piece of code does not compile and leads the reader to question the credibility of the rest of the examples and about the book itself.Get yourself Jason Hunter's book if you want some in-depth information about servlets.

This was easily one of the worst technical books that I've ever seen. After waiting several months past the initial publication date, I expected the book to be full of great servlet examples. Instead, the book contained examples of servlets that have been available on the web for a year. (Actually, I didn't see anything that I couldn't get off the web in this book.) What was worse, there was no CD with the source code delivered with the book. One other thing that bothered me about this book is that the design was VERY bad. Code examples were broken up between pages, and the caption for the example was at the bottom of the code example and not at the top. So, when looking at the start of the example, it was hard to know what the example was for. Also, there wasn't sufficient white space between captions, paragraphs, and section headers, and there wasn't enough of a difference between the fonts and sizes for the captions and the section headers. All of this made the book practically worthless. (Thank God Amazon.com accepts returns!!!!!!!)If you really want a servlet book, look at 'Inside Servlets: Server-Side Programming for the Java Platform' by Dustin Callaway instead.

I don't understand why some of the readers found this book useful. It's the worst book on java servlets. Buy J.Hunter's book instead

I was so curious when I read this review page. So I decided to buy this book just to see how bad it is. Truly, it's the worst one. I recommmend other servlet books, rather than this one.

The example code given in the book is very trivial and a disappointment for a person who gets carried away by its title.The book is for beginners who want to understand what a servlet is and who does not care to see if the examples work. First of all the examples are very superficial and most of them need to be debugged if you have to run them.

Please! Somebody stops this jerk! He has to stop writing!People that are not aware, are buying this junk,spending their hard earned money,actually beliving that it will bring some knowledge to them. His first book was already the biggest scheme of computer writing! How can you force me to give one Star! How about a Black-Hole?That's where people's money and expectations are gonna go! It's criminal! Somebody arrest this phony!

The book says it "covers" JSDK 2.1 but "covers" only JSDK 2.0. I have Jason Hunter' Java Servlet Programming which I find far better in explaining the concepts than this book. The examples given in this book contain plenty of mistakes and the reader needs to do a LOT OF DEBUGGING to make them work. I don't recommend this book to any serious Servlet developer.

This book covers less about servlets than you could find in one or two issues of any monthly java periodical, and what it does present is shaky and amatuerish at best. I only wish I had seen these reviews before purchasing it at my local bookstore. What a waste. The author should be held accountable for this garbage, as well as the publisher.
