It's good but needs a part 2

I enjoyed both the story and the characters. Very happy with my purchase.

I enjoyed reading this. The characters had more 'life' to them than I typically find in such short stories.

What an excellent story and to add a cherry on top of the ice cream, well written and superbly edited. My eyes are no longer like the eagles, but I didn't find any irritations. Maybe because the story was too interesting to notice.A very worthwhile read. Complex, interesting, and exciting. I liked it. It's good to dance to. I would buy that record.

This book is full of interesting twists and turns. Two nearly identical twins, with one difference, one is a boy, one ok s a girl. As kids, they regularly switched roles, but in an unusual twist the are about to be separate xxx for a month, each with a parent, the parents separated by work. The problem is that the girl is a tomboy and a jock, while the boy is anything but. The decide each parent will get more of what they want if the kids switch roles for the month.Of course being the children of newly wealthy parents has its downsides. They have a bit of adventure as well. Will they want to make the switch permanent? An excellent story that's hard to put down.

This story is psychologically and biologically believable.I would like for the author to write a sequel to this story There are very few "Happy ever after" crossdressing stories.

Yes, those into the genre will enjoy this but it's also a great action thriller that features a CIA covert type couple who present as much opportunity for the authors to follow up on as well as the delightful twins - who won out? Cissy or Alan? excellent engrossing adventure - well done! Highly recommended

If you are looking for sex action then this book is not for you. This book is about 2 teenage twins (Alan /Allie and Cecilia /Cissy) who think their parents are getting divorced decide to switch identities for a while. This story follows their lives and struggles to keep their secret.

Review

In an age dominated by standardized test scores, Chip Wood's, Yardsticks, is a treasure. It describes children as living, breathing, feeling, thinking beings. Many of the anecdotes made me chuckle or smile. Informed by a deep knowledge of general developmental trends, Wood also urges teachers to take time to observe each child as an individual, and he provides helpful tips for doing so. Most of all, this book helps us appreciate children, reminding us that they are truly a joy. I find this book life-affirming. I love it. --William Crain, Professor of Psychology, The City College of New York and author of Theories of Development: Concept and Applications.Yardsticks is a must-have resource for those committed to helping children learn. The heart of beautiful teaching emanates from understanding how children tick, think, learn and develop. Chip Wood synthesizes the far-flung field of child development into accessible portraits and then provides practical and applied strategies that will help children thrive. --Sam Intrator, Smith College, Elizabeth A. About the Author

For forty-five years, Robert (Chip) Wood has worked on behalf of children from preschool through eighth grade as a classroom teacher, teaching principal, and teacher educator. After studying at the Gesell Institute of Human Development early in his career, Chip made developmentally based teaching the center of his educational practice. His core belief: knowing what children at each age are developmentally capable of doing physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively enables respectful, successful teaching of all children no matter their life circumstances or cultural background. A co-developer of Responsive Classroom and co-founder of Northeast Foundation for Children (now Center for Responsive Schools), Chip has served as principal of two public schools and was co-founder of Greenfield Center School. He is a facilitator for the Center for Courage & Renewal and co-creator of Leading Together, an approach focused on strengthening the adult community of schools.

This breaks down, in a very helpful manner for teachers and parents, what to expect of each age developmentally. It's well-organized and simply laid out for easy and quick reference. A teacher or parent would love this book! You can also purchase "Yardsticks" brochures to hand out to parents for what to expect at each grade level, referencing the 2-3 years of development encapsulated in one grade.

Gives the expected milestones for each grade level and age for elementary school. I teach Special Ed and am not always 100% sure what a typically developing peer of the same age is capable of, and this is a great resource for figuring out where the most growth is needed.

Fantastic book! Useful for parents and teachers alike. Very sensible approach to children and their normal developmental levels. Highly recommended. My third copy, given to my children who have grandchildren.

Over my ten years of teaching, I have referenced this book more times than any other. Adolescent development is essential for teachers to understand. This books makes it easy to reference.

Great book. Buy it!!! Use it. Great for parents, teachers, and anyone working with children ages 4 to 14. This 4th Edition is excellent.

Great book. Well-written, well-researched, easy to use as a resource, and it has one of my favorite poems in it as well.

The book arrived in a very timely manner in excellent condition. This latest edition is exactly what I wanted, and I'm already using it in research.

Gives better idea on why kids do certain things

Review

'Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson are an exciting fusion for a book with stories, experiments, and best practices of the innovative, frontline churches. Europe has cause for great hope on the verge of something very significant in the life of the church in the west. With this book, inspiration and encouragement is given for all existing and future churches in Europe.' -- N. D. StruplerThere is a desperate need around the world for established churches to become more effective missional ventures into their local communities. Alan and Dave are passionate about this cause and On the Verge is an outstanding resource packed full of lessons for those serious about engaging in this exciting yet challenging adventure. I highly recommend it! - Mark Conner, CityLife Church – Australia -- Mark Conner'American pastors are naturally pragmatic. As these pastors look at the church scene there is a nearly unanimous note of despair and frustration: church is not working very well. And doing the same old thing and expecting different results is not the solution. The world in which the American church finds itself is radically changing; a changing world demands a changing church. The American church at its core needs to recapture and live out an “apostolic genius.” Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson in On the Verge invite readers to re-imagine what it means to be church. They contend that any church can be missional, and every church must be missional. This is not a call to new and quick fixes, rather it is an invitation to reflect and work hard, to question old structures, and be open to emerging structures, and to do all of this with a prayerful confidence in the moving of the Lord. I highly recommend this book to pastors and church leaders who are willing to be disturbed and are eager to see the Lord work in new ways.' -- Kurt Fredrickson'This is a must read for every pastor and denominational leader. Alan and Dave have masterfully described the path to multiplication by revealing what it means to see an orchard in every seed...by activating 'the latent potentials that are already present but largely inactive in most churches.' It is seeing the potential for a church in the DNA of every believer. This is the 'both/and' approach that is desperately needed in the Church.' -- Tammy DunahooHirsch and Ferguson point the way towards an exquisitely hopeful future for the Church. They call upon it, in all of its various expressions, to rekindle and release it their essential missional DNA, and they show how the church united can be the church ignited. Brilliant. - Linda Bergquist, church planting strategist with the North American Mission Board and co-author of Church Turned Inside Out -- Linda Bergquist, Author'God is on the move and the church is On the Verge of seeing new apostolic movements in the West. This book shows us that even some of the churches considered by many to be highly successful in the US are not content with bigger and better worship services but are seriously considering ways to eventually release apostolic movements. It is encouraging to see that these high-profile churches realize that true success is becoming reproducible, empowering of the ordinary follower and measuring their success three and four generations removed out in the fields of real life. This book is a challenge to established churches to follow Jesus into the real mission fields all around us rather than expect the people to come to us. My hope for the future has been elevated.' -- Neil Cole, AuthorAs a mega-church pastor I couldn’t put this book down. A spot on approach for the mega and church growth churches of the last decades to reframe ourselves as high impact, exponentially reproducing, missional movements. - Mike Slaughter, Ginghamsburg Church and author of Change the World -- Mike Slaughter, Author'For most leaders, the words 'apostolic' and 'movement' emote fear, guilt, and a sense of hopelessness. Finally, a book of deep concepts not only connects you to the possibilities, but gives you practitioner-based principles and stories that will help you live and lead in God's Gospel wave for the future.' -- Hugh Halter, AuthorNo doubt, missional is the “word of the day” right now. The word is slapped in front of almost everything. Often when people use that word, they are simply using it as a buzzword, swapping it for another subset word – evangelism, social justice, global missions, local missions, emergent, and the list goes on. If you’re ready to go to the core of what missional actually means, then On The Verge is the next book you should read. More than that, if you’re ready to move your local church beyond conceptual conversation toward real word practice, then On The Verge is the next book you should read. - Rob Wegner - Pastor of Life Mission, Granger Community Church / Lead Catalyst, EnterMission -- Rob Wegner, PastorOn the Verge extends the powerful categories and framework established by Hirsch in the Forgotten Ways, providing “handles” and practical examples of how to move forward for churches who are in the process of making the shift to missional, incarnational ministry. Ferguson’s insights as a leader who is making this shift brings proven concepts to life with real-world application. I recommend it for anyone looking to make the transition toward's a missional, incarnational church. - Jeff Vanderstelt, Pastor, Soma Communities -- Jeff Vanderstelt, PastorThis is who I'm called to be! That was my gut reaction when I first met the missional conversation. Since then I've been on the exciting and deeply challenging journey it is to figure out what it looks like to live in God's mission. Sadly, we've far too often placed lots of churches and people who follow Jesus in the 'not missional' box, instead of taking them on that same journey. Therefore, this book is a gift to the church, and a must read for every leader. It calls every church and Christ-follower to join God in His mission, and gives framework and tools we all can use to start the journey. - Egil Elling – Lead Pastor, IMI Kirken, Norway -- Egil Elling, Pastor'There are lots of books these days on being a missional church but this one adds practical ideas and real stories of churches implementing this into their existing ministry. While pointing to a need for a new paradigm, Ferguson and Hirsch give a needed framework for getting from where we are to where we are heading.' -- Dave Travis, Managing Director'The number one question I am asked in Canada is... Can existing churches change to become more missional?' Although we do not have many mega churches like in the States, what Alan and dave have done in On the Verge is to give principles and stories that will help churches of all sizes not only understand the missional conversation, but begin to move towards changing the DNA towards a deeper more missional understanding of who we are as the people of God - joining Him on His mission. You must read it often.' -- Cam Roxburgh, Senior Pastor'A priesthood of all believers, unleashed and commissioned to impact the world everywhere they touch it – what a novel idea! Sounds a lot like something Jesus taught and expected but, sadly, something much of the western church has long forgotten. Thankfully, Alan Hirsh and Dave Ferguson remind and challenge us anew to step back and let the Jesus’ church be his church. With careful analysis, thoughtful theory, and real-life examples they paint a picture of what it looks like when pastors and leaders once again realize that expanding the kingdom is far more important than simply building a bigger church.' -- Larry Osborne, Pastor and Author'What do you do when the old ways of doing church just don’t seem to work anymore? Thousands of pastors are asking this question at a time when the Church seems to be in danger of being marginalized in our culture. There are no two people better equipped to answer this question than my good friends Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson. Their book does more than provide solutions: it gives hope that the Church’s best days are yet to come.' -- Greg Surratt, Lead Pastor'I truly believe God could use this work to usher in a whole new paradigm of thinking for thousands of pastors and ministry leaders across America. It’s time once again that we view and do church in a radically different way. I believe every church leadership team in the country should be reading this together right now.' -- Shawn Lovejoy, Lead Pastor'This book won't just make you think. It'll make you rethink the way you lead, the way you dream, and the way you do church.' -- Mark Batterson, Lead Pastor

Every time I got excited about a key component of their vision and purpose, I got buried with cyclical teaching. But that isn't my greatest fault with the book. In all their talk of getting out of the box, they insisted it had to be controlled within the box. Plus they at one point claimed this method is what will turn the church around. It is a tool, not the tool. A tool can help, direct, or hinder change. It is the Holy Spirit that will bring real change. I like the tools in the book so I recommend it for the value in them. I can't give it more than three stars because of writing style and over stating it's role.

The church needs to recover her most ancient, potent and beautiful form, that of the apostolic movement, according to Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson in this book. The book represents an attempt by the authors to articulate a dynamic learning journey called Future Travelers which is being undertaken by a group of large US churches that are reframing themselves as high-impact exponentially reproducing missional movements.Readers who are not familiar with Alan's previous books will quickly discover that there is a whole new vocabulary to learn. The new paradigm of apostolic movements arises from the convergence of church growth theory, exponential thinking, and incarnational missiology. The new paradigm, which is referred to as "Apostolic Genius", encompasses mDNA which has six elements:* Jesus is Lord* Disciple-making* Apostolic environment* Missional-incarnational impulse* Organic systems* CommunitasAlan's perspective as a missional strategist and apostolic theologian is communicated in chapters 2 to 6, with Dave providing a short response to each chapter, and then Dave's perspective as an apostolic practitioner is communicated in chapters 7 to 10, with Alan providing a short response to each chapter. The two authors have distinctly different writing styles, but it is helpful to get the interposed theoretical and practical perspectives. Most readers will find this a challenging book to read, partly because of the new vocabulary and partly because many of the ideas raised are likely to be unfamiliar to the typical church leader. However, in my view the book is well worth the struggle because of the importance of considering and thinking through the issues raised. Apostolic movements are a work in progress , so it is OK to disagree with the authors' ideas.I personally struggled with the idea that "all of God's people already have everything in them to be able to get the job done". My understanding is that God gives different people different spiritual gifts so that we need to work together with others who have complementary spiritual gifts to get the job done, and this is why a church can accomplish mission far more effectively than lone-ranger Christians, and small groups which do not have an adequate balance of spiritual gifts tend to be ineffective.I highly recommend the book to church leaders and gave it five stars, not because of its literary style or even the answers it gives but because of the critical importance to the church in Western countries of addressing the questions the book raises.

This book has some good insights into mission of the church, but I would caution about using everything in this book. If you are not a fan of social gospel, this book will rub you wrong. The main thrust of the book is to try new approaches to church that take the individual outside of the four walls to reach the 60% who our unchurched. The book also bounces back and forth between the two authors, with one writing a chapter and the other critiquing it.

On The Verge by Alan Hirsch and David Ferguson contains some great missional thoughts. The book is thoroughly thought out and well presented in format. However, the use of unfamiliar words, jargon, and words that seemed formed just for use in this book, made the reading of the book laborious at best. I would quickly tire of reading it so I would lay the book aside for a while. Then when I would return to the book, I found myself lost and had to re-educate myself on the terminology of the book. That having been said, I believe the concepts are sound. The institutional church must become far more missional and sending rather than institutional and gathering - On The Verge addresses this issue. The authors provide many examples of institutional churches working to become more missional and with some success. These churches and their success are used to validate the concepts the authors present in the book. I remain skeptical that the institutional church can make the wholesale changes Hirsch and Ferguson seem to think they need to make. In that sense, On The Verge did not convince me that the institution called church is anywhere near being on the verge of change.

If Joel Barker's famous axiom is indeed true - that, "you manage within a paradigm; you lead between paradigms", then On the Verge by Hirsch and Ferguson, is a most welcomed and greatly needed leadership resource for the North American church. It is solidly grounded in biblical theology and organizational theory, and geared towards catalyzing and facilitating ecclesiastical transformation of apostolic proportions. Through a four-fold process of: 1) Imagine, 2) Shift, 3) Innovate and 4) Move, Hirsch and Ferguson provide a detailed map for the journey away from a ministry governed by an institutional paradigm towards one governed by an apostolic paradigm. It addresses issues from the conceptual to the concrete, from the theoretical to the practical, and from the subconscious to the conscious. Matters of culture, ethos, values, practices, and ethics are tackled; and each chapter provides strategic discussion and exploration questions to help leadership teams and groups process the material. Additionally, On the Verge, is rooted in Hirsch's previous work on the structure of apostolic genius (i.e., Jesus is Lord, communitas, organic systems, etc.). I highly recommend this book!

"The depiction of dyslexia was appreciated as the sheer frustration and embarrassment Josh experiences when trying to read comes across very strongly. This book is an excellent read for other children who are experiencing similar literacy issues and it portrays a very hopeful ending regarding Josh’s struggles." When I look for a book. It has to speak to me in the 1st few pages. Not only did this one speak to me but it made me not want to put it down. Really good book about a person who's dealing with Dyslexia and growing up. To think no one figured out he had dyslexia until he was 14.

Eleven-year-old Josh has a problem: he can't read. Despite the tutors, letters won't come together: "It was like wading through the mud in his rubber boots at low tide." And his parents have split. He's on Vancouver Island with his boat-building dad, and his mother's in Toronto with his older brother Matt. While he's adjusted to living on a schooner on the Canadian west coast, he'd rather be sailing: "In a breeze like that, Nomad would be flying. He could almost taste the salt spray misting across the bow."Then he sees his chance to earn respect from his mockers, especially one girl at the marina. A sailing contest for a crew of two is upcoming. The girl issues him a challenge, and he's confident...until he learns that Matt has to stay at home and go to summer school. The dream vanishes and Josh wonders if life will ever improve. It's tough to write a good YA book. The author needs to master the vocabulary, the sentence structure, the culture, and the interests of that age group. Jenny Watson captures the stubborn but frustratingly helpless nature of a creative young boy with a handicap he can't understand. He can dive to the bottom of the harbour to find lost clamps, and he can rig a boat blindfolded and weather a storm. Facing the sea with bravery is in his blood. But ask him to read to the young kids at the library if he loses a bet, and he's panicking.A good book should instruct and delight, and this one wins stars on both counts. Watson sprinkles the sailing lore with a deft hand, a bit at a time, while handling a suspenseful plot. Toss in a slightly dysfunctional family, and the task gets even tougher. Yet Josh's father and mother are rounded characters, totally believable. They love their kids, but they can't get along. Many will identify with this dilemma.Watson lives in Victoria, and she's captured the ambience of the dockside like a painted locket miniature: "Josh took a deep breath, inhaling the smells of seawater and mud, a hint of pine from the trees that lined the shore, and just the slightest sourness from the mill across the bay." The weekend sailors, those who call their boats home, the hustle and bustle of keeping a vessel in top condition, not to mention the excitement of a race and the safety precautions make the pages come to life. This book has the focus of a lightning rod and the expanse of the Salish Sea. The reader cheers for Josh from beginning to end in this charming and skillfully crafted YA novel.

While Prove It Josh would be an inspiration to any child struggling to overcome an adversity, whether physical or social, it is also an exciting story of a sailing race, new friendships and the good feelings generated by doing the right thingThe author keeps the plot moving from the very beginning with intriguing hooks at the end of every chapter and by continuously raising the stakes for Josh and his new friend, Dakota. Josh has just moved to the west coast to live on a boat with his father, where he meets Dakota, a girl who lives on a float home at the neighboring marina. I loved the references to Swallows and Amazons, a book of adventures of kids and boats and a childhood favorite of mine, and plan to give this to all the kids I know for Christmas.

Josh is a determined kid. He’s determined to win the bet, to win the race, and to win over his inability to read. But more importantly, Josh is determined to do the right thing.Just in from Toronto, Josh is the new and weird kid on the block, and the cool kids in the class make it clear he is going to have to earn their acceptance, the hard way.It feels like everything conspires to go wrong after Josh is goaded into making a bet on winning the Senanus Island Small Boat Race with his small sailing vessel, the Nomad. He has to spend extra time with reading tutors, he loses his only crewmember, and he discovers his main competitor’s boat is sleek, new, and fast.Luckily, things pick up when he meets Dakota, a spunky homeschooled marina rat. They develop a friendship based on mutual trust, interests, and understanding. Josh invites Dakota to be his crew for the race and Dakota introduces Josh to her grandmother, a wise and encouraging soul who helps him to accept and overcome his reading disability.Prove It, Josh is a quality read; a great story built on refreshing and realistic characters propelled by an engaging and educational plot. The thematic backdrop to the story relays the message that learning disabilities can affect any type of person, that they do not define the person, and that with the right support and dedication they can be surmounted. If the kids in your life are sailors or have ever dreamed of sailing, this short novel will resonate deeply with them. And for every kid who gets excited about adventure, who has ever had to contend with a challenge, or who plain loves a great book, Prove it, Josh is for them.

This story was a wonderful adventure about mending family ties and making new friends when life takes you to the other side of the country where you are compelled to face your biggest fears. Loved the sailing and west coast setting!

Covers the topic of Buddhism is the usual quality and style of DK publishing. I have about 50 of these in my classroom and quite a few at home for my daughter. Love them!

very good

It's a very visual book but at the same time the content is very interesting and well explained. I recommend it!

We were very interested in how this complicated and ancient religion would be portrayed from a Western, visiting eye. We were pleased at DK's clear delineation between the major sects were given as much devotion to detail as the sects in DK's Christian book (as well as fair portrayal in the DK Religions book!). The differences included practices by the people versus the monks, by evolution through countries, and recent adaptation to America. I don't know that the Editorial Reviewer got it right when they said the belief in afterlife was obscured. It's a Western measurement that negates what the DK Religions book and Buddhism book gives a vantage to. Very interesting stuff for those ready to move past the 9/11 God-centered/Christian-Islamic dialogue toward a more inclusive world view! Read on about Eastern religions that preceded these dialogues by a few hundred years! Very insightful!

A lovely copy just as described and quick turnaround on shipping. Thanks!

I bought this book as a present for a very special friend. I've read this book.....and loved it!!! The author, F. B. Meyer is very honest and has such a unique love for his Lord Jesus Christ. this book is a great inspiration!

F.B. Meyer, along with Spurgeon, is one of the great preachers of his day, and there aren't any of them anymore. You can read both of them, and marvel at the insight that they have into the meaning of the scriptures, and the ability they have to mine the treasures within. Kindle has enough material from both of them to provide years of reading and growth for anyone who desires a closer walk and companionship with Jesus.

Thoughtful book. Updated grammar used is helpful since it was written in the late 1800's. I think Dallas Willard's book "Hearing God" was better for practical advice on hearing guidance. But both books add valuable insight.

I am interested in gaining insights from people who have demonstrated in practical ways how their relationship with God has transformed their life. Knowing that God loves us and wants to be involved in our lives can be a powerful motivation to discover ways to be sure you recognize God's presence and are effectively following His guidance. This book had a great deal of helpful and spiritually challenging insights that will assist my daily life. I would recommend it to anyone serious about the pursuit of biblical information that has the potential to change their lives in positive ways.

This is an encouraging book that talks about the Holy Spirit as a person and how to have a deeper walk with the Lord. It's short to the point ,and easy to understand. I was encouraged, some of these older theologians can help young believers that want to grow in grace understand better what it means to walk with God.

Grateful to have this book, so overlooking all the type-os. Really a lot of them, more than any book I've ever read. But grateful someone reprinted it. It is educating me. I will re-read this one.

What one would expect in terms of legalistic leanings of an early 20th century Baptist minister ("Why Take The Pledge?"). Nonetheless, helpful in it's conviction to help seekers obtain the benefits of a classical, scripture rooted approach to following the way of Christ.

Inspiring and solid teaching from classic Christian writer/Shepherd. Answers the question regarding how to hear from God.

Having grown my share of sprouts in mason jars (lots of rinsing; very little output + associated health risks with e.coli and salmonella) and experimented with indoor micro greens (complicated and expensive) I was delighted to discover Peter Burke's simple soil sprout method. Follow the directions outlined in the book and you can't go wrong; you will be harvesting ultra-fresh, delicious organic greens from your windowsill in less than 10 days. For me it is 7 or 8 days, which I think is impressive. The author clearly knows his subject and has thought through every aspect. The book is comprehensive, well-organized, and generously and helpfully illustrated. The author's tone is friendly and encouraging. Getting started is simple, just gather up a short list of supplies -I had almost everything at home. If aluminum foil pans don't appeal to you, visit your local thrift store or a yard sale and pick up a couple dozen cereal bowls to use for planters. Book includes contingency plans for when your schedule goes off course and your indoor garden gets neglected.Nice recipe section inspires reader to use soil sprouts in salads, stir fries, soups, dip, tempura, sandwiches, wraps, and the workday lunchbox. Seed by Seed index is a goldmine of info for 25+ types of greens you can grow. The author recommends beginning with buckwheat, pea, sunflower, daikon, and broccoli, which I did. I have since added popcorn, Chinese cabbage, adzuki beans, Tuscan black kale, garnet amaranth, purple kohlrabi, and a French Garden mixture which includes clover, cress, arugula and lentils. Without exception every bowl I have planted has yielded a beautiful "head" of greens...and yellows, reds, pinks and even purples and I am shocked at how easy and enjoyable it is! I wish I had thought of this method! But since I did not, I am glad Peter Burke did.

In addition to being an outdoor organic gardener for over 40 years from Central America to Alaska, I have done sprouts in jars using a rinsing method, and I have grown micro greens in winter in standard seed flat trays. Peter Burke's soil sprouting method is infinitely superior to the jars, and it is faster in terms of usable veggies than micro greens. I suspect the result is not as nutrient dense as the micro greens, but it is clearly a very valuable growing technique since it requires much less time, space and light.I purchased and read the book about three weeks ago. It is well written and reflects the author's long term thought and experimentation with his subject. The illustrations are great.I determined to bow to his obvious wisdom and follow his instructions exactly as written. As a result we have enjoyed large quantities of kale, sunflower, and broccoli sprouts in salads and smoothies for not quite two weeks. What will I change? I am not going to use the aluminum baking pans long term because of concerns of toxicity and cost of replacement. But the SIZE of the pans is perfect. The soil depth is needed to keep things from drying out, and the quantity of one variety produced in the pans is just right for two of us. Also, since I have a soil heating mat, I'm trying some bottom heat to get more uniform sprouting, but the sprouts are fine without the heat mat.One reason I believe the microgreens are more nutrient dense is they grow longer, about three weeks total, and have more time to begin taking upnutrients in my soil mix. I did add the thin layer of compost and kelp meal under the peat moss and vermiculite as Peter directed, but I'm wondering is the soil sprouts are metabolizing any of those nutrients or just utilizing the seed resources. If the latter is the case, the quality of the seed alone would determine the nutrient density of the soil sprouts. I'm going to grow some controls without the kelp and compost and see if there is any visible difference. Perhaps the author is aware of some chemical analysis done of sprouts that would answer the question?Eliot Coleman describes somewhere the French market gardeners who placed a clump of inverted sod under cucumbers to rot and enhance fertility. I will save the root mass, soil, compost and kelp "brick" left over after harvest for that same purpose. Finally, I think the method is a wonderful addition to our personal resiliency. A bag of sunflower seeds in storage could yield enormous quantities of fresh vegetables any time of the year in a pinch. Thanks Peter Burke!

I really appreciate this straightforward guide to growing your own salad green sprouts. I have wanted to grow salad greens indoors for quite a while but I didn't want to deal with the trouble of having to set up lights and the long wait from seed to salad. I find the salad green sprouts to be the perfect fit for what I want because they grow quickly with only the light from a window. They taste delicious and are much easier to grow indoors than salad greens. This book does a great job of going over all the details of growing indoor salad sprouts as well as describing what seed varieties are best for sprouts. It's totally worth buying if you like the idea of growing your own sprouts! I spend about 10-15 min a day preparing my salad green sprouts (you plant new pans every day so you have a daily supply), and it's really as easy as the book describes.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! . I am planning to go commercial, as I need supplementary income badly, and this is the ticket. From fearful of my financial future, I am feeling calm and confident! Mr. Burke is so completely thorough about every aspect of this NEW (to me) craft that I am amazed he missed one very small point. You plant a teaspoon, or a table spoonful of seed, but the sellers give you packets with 100 or 200 seeds, or ounces or pounds of seeds, and I don't know how many tablespoons of sunflower seeds are in a half pound of seed. I'll figure this soon enough. I will make myself a chart of seed sizes, quantities, and weights, I guess. But , after all, this book is utterly fantastic! It is so complete that I feel rotten about complaining. There are no other books about this sure fire method.Buy this book, it could change your life! It did mine.
