I've been thinking about deploying LDAP in the Solaris Environment and last year I bought a previous version of this book (ASIN: 0130306789 ), but it was really a disappointing experience. The book was telling mostly about what LDAP is, but not much about how to use it in Solaris.The new version is great. It tells you what you can use LDAP for, how to plan, deploy and support services. It also covers recent version of Sun Directory Server (5.2) and 2 the most popular versions of Solaris (8 and 9).Highly highly recommended.

Reading this book, for me, is akin to a middle-aged, every-other-weekend hiker with an aching knee reading a book about how to climb Mt. Everest. That hiker may really, really enjoy reading that book. And her hiking experiences may allow her to greatly appreciate all of the work that goes into climbing Mt. Everest, but the truth is, she will never, ever climb that mountain!Bar Tartine is a lovely book. The photographs are stunning. The recipes are creative and complex. I might, someday, try one of them.I will not be making any of these recipes anytime soon for a few reasons. As I'm sure the other reviews have mentioned again and again, each recipe calls for one or more ingredients that one must prepare using the techniques section that comprises the first half of the book. These ingredients are brined, pickled, smoked, dried, powdered, smoked, burnt, smoked then powdered...etc. I just do not have enough refrigerator space to devote to 10+ vats of various foods, in various stages of being transformed from simple to delicious. I live in Europe, and the fridges here tend to be small (note to any Europeans reading this, none of the things in this book will fit in your fridge, but if you are a native European, you may be braver than I when it comes to not refrigerating things). Also, only one person that I know in my town owns a gas oven, and it is the kind without a pilot light, so all of those dried food recipes are out.The other thing is, for all of the time spent on techniques, there is very little information about how to use the resulting pickles and powders and sauces, other than in other equally daunting recipes at the end of the book. I might be persuaded to cook heads of garlic at 130F in my rice cooker for 3 WEEKS if there was a list of more than three ways in which I could actually use black garlic.All of that said, I will never climb Mt. Everest, but I do occasionally enjoy reading books about this feat. Hence, 4 stars for an interesting and engaging book about cooking techniques that I will likely never use.

The philosophy behind this book is immediately apparent: the first 150 pages contain recipes for ingredients, not dishes. But what ingredients! Goat cheese, pork fat chile oil, rice vinegar, Brussels kraut, fig leaf syrup, mushroom broth, karasumi/bottarga(!) An entire other category is powders - onion, garlic, yoghurt, rice koji, kale, parsnip, sauerkraut - that are bright and fresh and perfect for inventive sous vide recipes. One warning though: the recipe for black garlic (put garlic heads in a slow cooker set on Warm, for two weeks) mentions the intense smell: I confirm that it can go through walls.But back to that mushroom broth: it is ordinarily made with water and a few mushrooms, and is invariably insipid; this recipe cooks LOTS of fresh mushrooms at low temperature for hours then extracts all the liquid from them, is all. The recipe made so much sense that it was the first thing I made. It's easily the best mushroom broth in the world, but these guys also include a recipe to further reduce it to an emulsion, good grief.The recipes for dishes, when they finally start, are very inventive and just as uncompromising. Cabbage rolls with fish cake starts with the recipe for making fish cake. The result is probably not that different from wrapping store-bought fish cake with cabbage (a pairing made in Heaven), but hey: now I can invent new fish cakes laced with (say) white anchovies,katsuobushi, or even that bottarga. Slow-roasted carrots with burnt bread and almond milk sounds bizarre, but after reading the recipe it sounds compelling.Only after the first read-thru did I realize that - never mind the heavy use of Asian ingredients - the heart of this cookbook beats in Hungary. It uses no exotic, overpriced ingredients, and the recipes, while long and complicated, are not in themselves difficult. This is SLOW food, in the best sense of the word: some of the recipes would take months to make if you had to start from scratch. Right now is prime Brussels sprout season, so grab the book now, get the Brussels kraut started, and by next summer you'll be ready to cook with it. The authors spent years learning and developing their techniques, and are graciously sharing them with us here.

Wrong genre. This is a terrible book as a cookbook. Formatted and spun as more of a food adventure of the authors, or as a philosophy of food use it might have been received very favorably. But once you are in mind of a cookbook and you begin exploring this book, it is hard not to come away disappointed. You realize you aren't going anywhere with these recipes. For example, with a garden full of lettuce I opened the recipe for wedge salad with buttermilk, barley and sprouts. 31 ingredients and 10 of them refer you to other pages for their preparations, many of which are time consuming. Tracking down the ingredients would be at least a whole day's grocery run, if you are fortunate enough to live in a prime food city. This unusable recipe is not atypical of this book. I contrast this with Marcella's Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking and the recipe there I did use tonight, Romaine lettuce salad with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts: 7 ingredients and a spectacular use of my lettuce. No, I cannot think of the user for Bar Tartine as a cookbook. Lots of effort, pretty pictures, some inspiring ideas, but caveat emptor!

This was a terrific read that had my three children (3, 5, and 7) totally engaged. My only complaint is that the last chapter jumped awkwardly to a scene after Teddy's death and proceeded to briefly recount much of his adulthood accomplishments. It felt as if the author had written a terrific piece and then published it before writing the second half.

This is a review of the audiobook only. School is ended and until summer camp starts, my 8 year old daughter has to go to work with me. I stocked up on audiobooks to keep her busy. We both were really excited about the one on Teddy Roosevelt, and started with it first. I set her up listening in the lunchroom and I went back to work. After 5 minutes she showed up in my office saying that there was something wrong with the tape, like it was in slow motion. We played it on another cassette player. We played the other tapes. They're all the same. Lloyd James reads this book one syllable at a time and sounds like a 5 year old that is trying to sound out every word. It goes so unnaturally slow that I thought the cassette spool must be warped. One star is too high.

He has learned so much about Teddy Roosevelt and has done an awesome project about his life using this book.

If you want to read a totally fabricated book about Theodore Roosevelt, then this is it!He attended Harvard when he was 17, after being solely homeschooled by his sisters and an occasional private tutor. He was one of the most intelligent men of our time, but there was an excerpt that states that he realized what a disservice learning at home was, and realized school was so much better. A ridiculously biased, and untrue statement. When did writing a book with facts become so difficult? He had an amazing life and does not need a bunch of fluff to make it interesting. I will be clearing out any Alladin biographies I have in my library.

We used this book last summer for my 8 and 10 year olds. The first 13 chapters were very good, interesting and show that Teddy Roosevelt was an upstanding, fair, motivated and hardworking young man. The book tells of Teddy was interested in natural history from a young age, his determination to ride a bucking pony, his resolve to not let bigger boys push him around, and his supportive family, especially his father. Each chapter covers a certain event and time of his youth, therefore, can be read independently.Interesting but somewhat disturbing that young Teddy would use the word "bully" when he was excited and happy. Looked up in the internet, supposedly means, informal speech, "fine, excellent, very good" and Teddy Roosevelt did like to use that word when he was pleased. Keep in mind that slangs and informal speech are confusing to kids when adults are not around to do some explaining.It is the last chapter that we didn't enjoy. While the first 13 chapters tells Teddy's life as stories, the last chapter was written as the story of a boy scout group putting on a skit of Teddy's life. My boys were frustrated with this chapter because the bantering of the boy scouts were mixed with the skit lines. It would have been better if the last chapter was made into a summary of what Teddy Roosevelt had done after his bull moose hunt - that he went to Harvard, was Governor of New York, established national parks, building Panama Canal, was vice president, took over as president, etc - and what his motto was.I would recommend the first 13 chapters of this book and let your young people do their own research after that. Hence 3 stars.

I read this to my kids (7 and 10 years) because they need more practice with nonfiction comprehension and we learned about President Roosevelt this year. This book is great because it tells about a historical figure as a youngster, with adventures, problems, and lots of dialogue. Each chapter has a short adventure or episode in Teddy Roosevelt's childhood, up til teenage years; and through his words and actions we could see various positive character traits in a way that the kids could relate to. For example, when we discover that he was fair, it is shown in a boxing match when he does not hold it against his opponent who throws a last punch because he did not hear the end-of-round bell. And Teddy calls out to the judges and spectators not to penalize the other boxer for it. We also find out about his ability to plan and strategize when he leads his team of neighborhood boys in a game of invasion. At the end of each chapter I would ask my kids, "what did this chapter show about Teddy Roosevelt?" And to whatever answer they gave, my next question was "And how do you know that? How was that demonstrated?" Their school curriculum constantly asked those kind of questions so I just applied it to the book.The last chapter was the best. A Boy Scout group or something like it, was putting on a play several years after President Roosevelt's death, about his life. To do so, each member of the troupe chose an episode in Teddy's life to portray, with props, sound effects, and costumes. Some of these were episodes described in the book, some were beyond that timeline. So that last chapter was a story of a story of a story, showing what values and details a young person might recall about this great man. It was also a creative, really neat way to wrap up the book.Great book about character. Looking for another one in the series.

I've gotten this before and love the pockets!

I've been using these calendars for about 15 years and love them. Although more notices, invitations, etc. come via email, it's still really useful to have one central calendar where everyone in the family can see what's going on, and where I can tuck in bills, etc. The reason I gave 4 rather than 5 stars is that the art is always very kitschy. I can usually find something that isn't entirely country hearts and quotes, it would be nice to have at least one calendar option that's a bit more sophisticated. But maybe that just means I'm not really their market :)

My husband and I struggled with infertility for close to 7 years. I did Clomid, IUI, IVF, FET. I got pregnant with IVF but it ended in a chemical pregnancy. I also go pregnant with the FET but miscarried at 7 weeks 4 days. We planned to give IVF another try in Sept. 2016. We moved across the country, bought a house and 2 weeks later (2 days before Christmas) I took a pregnancy test that to my complete and utter shock came back positive. I am now almost 18 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, a healthy baby girl we are naming Emmerson. I bought this book shortly after my miscarriage and it helped give me hope to hold on to. Now my husband and I read this book to our unborn daughter almost every day (now that she can hear us) and neither of us can make it through without crying.This book is perfect for anyone struggling or who has struggled with infertility, loss or both.We can't wait to read it to our daughter when she is here and remind her every single day how wanted and loved she is.I even bought this book for a friend who has been on a similar journey as me, to help her keep the hope alive and one day be able to read to her precious baby.

I bought this great book for a friend. While I assume this book was written for parents who have adopted, this worked great for parents who struggled with infertility and fertility difficulties. This was a great book to give expectant moms and dads who have undergone fertility treatments to have a child or those who have adopted. What I really loved was the fact that it outlined what the process truly feels like, the excitement of being ready to have a child, the heartbreak when you find out that it isn't a possibility, and the thunderous joy of finally having a child - all without making it religious or too scientific. I cried reading it and cried reading it to my son, who is yet too young to understand this book, but perhaps one day will understand what his parents felt, emotionally, as we journeyed towards becoming parents.

We went through many losses and IVF to get our sweet rainbow baby and this book perfectly exemplifies that story without too much information for a child. I bought three copies to give to people at our fertility center and this ranks as my current very favorite book for our son. It doesn't go into any details of a specific journey, just a couple (non-gendered) that waited and waited for their baby. Makes me weep when I read it.

After years of infertility we are pregnant with twins via IVF. When I read the book I started crying, this explains exactly what my husband and I went though emotionally. I want my babies to know how much we fought to bring them here and how much they are really loved and wanted. This book will do it.

There are not enough good things to say about this book. For anyone who thought they would be like everyone else and just have a baby when they decided to, but then found out that some roads are very long and winding and full of heartbreak, this book is for you. It flawless describes the stages of wishing for a child, the child not coming, the despair and limbo of waiting, and the final glorious moment when your miracle baby finally arrives. As someone who had to wait two years and go through countless procedures and tests, to finally get my miracle baby through IVF, this book makes me ugly cry every time. Buy it for yourself or a friend going through infertility. I bought it before my baby was here and it gave me so much.

I love this book. I originally saw it at Target and was literally crying in the aisle when I read it. It resonated with me because we struggled with infertility for years and this book talks about the waiting in a very simple way that is appropriate for young children. I checked the price on amazon right then and there and ordered it on amazon because the price was cheaper. We used this book as a centerpiece at a table for my Storybook themed baby shower and it was the first book I read to my baby boy when he was born.

As someone who struggled with infertility, this book spoke to us. We want our little one to know just how special he/she is to us because of the complicated journey it took for him/her to get here. Was reading aloud to my husband and unexpectedly started tearing up about halfway through the book because it was completely our story.

It took 4 IVF cycles to make our son. It took at least a dozen reads to be able to get through this book without sobbing. It was written by someone who has been there. “We didn’t make plans”... so perfect. This is a beautiful book, perfect for anyone who struggled to get their baby. It would work for adoption, infertility, and for same sex couples too (the elephants are not gendered). Love it.
