I grew up with Sgt. Friday and "just the facts".. Apparently Lee Strobel did too... He lays out clear expert testimony (not just his own 2 cents worth) and builds a case that shows that the Resurrection is not just possible, but more than likely, and making it " believable in your heart"... I have highlighted all the key points in my copy so I can easily review for a "fluffing up" of my belief.. Mark 9:23-24, ..."Anything is possible if a person believes". 24) ...."I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"... This is an excellent collection of facts to do just that. This book is only 1/4" thick and an excerpt from his full size book "The Case for Christ", which is a more lengthy and complete edition supporting the case for the whole existence of Christ... This book about Easter is specifically about the Resurrection... You might want to buy "The Case for Christ" first... The author, Lee Strobel, explains how, as an atheist, he set out to prove it all wrong, but ended up a believer by his own research... I recommend both these books to "help you with your unbelief"...

I have a hard time rating this product. It's an amazing book, but I didn't realize when I bought it that is was just three chapters taken out of the Case for Christ...I would just buy that book if I were you, but a very great apologetic and Gary Habermas is the man when it comes to the resurrection. If you like apologetics I would also check out Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus. What a great insight to how orthodox Muslims are raised and the true struggle and sacrifice they go through when converting to Christianity.

For some, no amount of evidence will convince; but for those who pursue objective truth and suspend their personal bias, will always benefit from books like this.To locate actual truth. All sides and all aspects must be explored, and this book is a great start!

The book was written in an easy to read format. The truth was proven time and time again. Open you heart and mind if you don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God making us followers unbounded by law of the Jews and Muslims, but followers of the most logical sounding prophet out there. He is the King of Kings!

This book makes as cogent a case for the Resurrection as any that occur to me. The evidence cited shows what the basic facts are, and which way they point. The conclusion is up to the reader. At this point, belief (or continued skepticism, for that matter) is an act of the will (Romans 10:10).

It was an excellent book about the details of Easter. I appreciated all the research that went into this project for the case and reality of Easter.It is a convincing conclusion by Lee Strobel, well-written and documented. I believe in Easter and what it means for my own resurrection!!!

I was deeply moved by Strobels treatise. I cannot call it a book because of its length. I would have liked him to include a little more of his thought process which converted him from staunch atheist to confirmed believer.

Compeling and powerful read with concluding implications that strike to the heart of every person. I liked how he handled the evidence and brought about things to think about and consider that most people don't when it comes to the resurrection of Jesus. If want to know more, this book is for you.

My original thought was to give the book either four or five stars. The strong points of the text are in the tidbits of information given by Junger, e.g. artillery shells do not travel as far at night as during the day and there was little animus between French civilians and German soldiers. With regard to the latter Junger writes of sharing the home of a French family and playing cards after the evening meal and visiting of the stupidity of war. It left me angry with the idea of old and vain politicians causing wars over who knows what at the cost to regular everyday people.The book gives many pages of description of artillery attacks but after about fifty or so pages it becomes repetitive. It seems the main causes of death and injury came from artillery and sniper fire. The description of trenches was also enlightening.But in reading other reviews, after buying the book, I learned that many parts of the original had been edited out. Nuts! My purchase was to get a better idea not of grand strategic stuff but what ordinary soldiers did and what they thought. While the Hofmann translation is readable, sometimes downplaying events to show the foolishness of the whole war thing, I really would have liked to see the original which I think appears in the 1929 translation. I advise the dear reader to look for the latter. I'm always curious about what is taken out.

Since this is the centennial of WWI I thought I would read a few books relating to it this summer. I had heard that this was a good book. I therefore ordered it and in anticipation of its arrival I read the reviews of it here on Amazon (This is the BEST feature of Amazon and will keep its stock selling for multiples above its P/E for decades) in more depth. I realized that some of this great novel had been expunged because of parts that cast a favorable light on the National Socialist. I then searched another book purveyor and ordered an earlier translation which was a reprint of a 1929 edition by Howard Fertig publishers, no attribution given to translation.The Amazon edition, translated by Michael Hofmann and published by Penguin arrived first. I began to read it and enjoyed it. The translation is good, crisp, and has a nice flow and rhythm to it. I was on the 3rd chapter when the 1929 edition arrived. At this point I began to read the 1929 edition. By the time I had gotten to where I was with the Michael Hofmann edition I was stunned! The narrator, Ernst Junger, portrayed in both books were totally different. The narrator of the 1929 edition was a classically educated man that was strongly patriotic. The Hofmann translation was of a faceless, unthinking, soldier.At this point I read them in parallel. It left me profoundly depressed to think that anyone would have the temerity to boldly blot out entire pages of a priceless autobiography. Whatever you may think of German nationalism and the German character, no one, not Hofmann, nor penguin has the right to butcher and slant a great work of literature. If you are a student of military history you want the 1929 edition as Junger takes the time to explain military tactics and the necessity for discipline and practice, practice, practice in the military arts. Hofmann has deemed this not fit for our enlighten.After reading both of these translations I am left with a deep feeling of alienation and angst. How many "translations" have I read that have completely edited out the meat of the book? As an American, born free, and will live free or die, I regard as enemies of mankind those who take it upon themselves to tell us what to think. I just want an unedited text. Let me draw the conclusion.For the above reasons I pronounce an anathema upon the Hofmann translation. Seekers of truth and authenticity I must wave you off; regard this translation as radioactive.

I cannot overstate how fantastic this book is. Junger's writing style is both easy to read and beautiful at the same time. He brings the reader into the world of a German solider in the most gruesome, intense and awesome (in the traditional understanding of the world) conflict in history up to that point. It reads like fiction. Junger's descriptions of combat, both in the trenches and in the open, will make your heart race, your mouth dry and give you goosebumps. This book is not all guns and guts though - the true picture of war as mostly boredom sprinkled with bits of fighting is drawn out. He humanizes his comrades and foes alike. In short, he makes the war experience imminently accessible to a person like me - mid-20's male, no military experience, reading the book over a century after the Guns of August sounded.What makes this book unique is the author's takeaways from his time fighting in The Great War. He loved it. He never felt more alive and human than when he was in the midst of fighting for his life. It is jarring for the modern reader, especially someone who is familiar with the experiences of WWI soldiers, to hear this perspective. This is not to say that he glosses over the horrors of what he lived through - he comes to this conclusion in spite of recognizing the hell of war. His view is more nuanced than "War is all glory" or "War is only hell". He saw himself and other men do things they could have never imagined possible - both magnificent and horrific.There are many fantastic books I read that I would not recommend to those who do not have an interest in military affairs or history. This is not one of those books. It is accessible to anyone who enjoys excellent writing. Junger's Storm of Steel is a literary classic.

I stumbled on this book on accident and wish I knew about it sooner, it's really an amazing story. I recommend skipping the long winded forward though, or maybe go back and read it after the fact.

Written by a man who lived through the years leading up to the Nazi Party's birth, growth, eventual election to power and all the subsequent insane and inhuman events that followed; a journalist keeping detailed diaries and then supplementing with years of detailed research through vast amounts of other documents, diaries, court records, interviews. Amazing! To read this book is a formidable but engrossing task and the end result is enormous satisfaction that I have truly learned an honest and complete historical lesson. My parents lived through WWII in Latvia, my father was drafted into the Nazi Army to fight the Soviets on the Eastern front and was severely wounded during the occupation, my mother escaped from Liepaja with the fleeing Nazi troops abandoned there on the day Berlin fell. The emotions which this book raised then resolved are indescribable as I finally felt I had learned all there was needed to know about what my parents went through because they would speak none of it. They hated the Nazis, they hated the Soviets, they could speak of none of it.

I wondered at first if I could get through such a long book on history. However, I found that while not "easy" reading it was not the drudgery I have encountered in other such books. Actually it moves freely if you don't spend too much time remembering all the names. The main characters are mentioned enough that they will stick with you. It covered a lot but without spending too much time on any individual topic. It gave me the big picture with enough detail to educate me on a lot of things of which I had been unaware. Lastly, it was interesting that it was a first hand account rather than a look back on history.

After visiting a reunified Germany, I began to wonder how such intelligent, organized, proper people could have fallen for the myth of Hitler. So I decided to read this book. And although the book doesn't specifically address this issue, even sixty years later, it provides insights into the ways a population (and the world) can be hoodwinked. As such, it also provides a stark warning to the 21st century about leadership, charisma, propaganda (the control of the media), courage, and critical thinking.Shirer, unlike so many of today's "journalistic" books, provides a narrative that is probably 90 percent objective. Throughout the book, Shirer bases his reporting on sources captured after the Nazi defeat. These include memoranda, entries from personal diaries, and even some one-on-one interviews with former Nazis. You can see the era's bias such as those against homosexuals (often referred to as "perverts") come into play, but given WHEN the book was written, this is not unexpected nor does it diminish the significance of the report. When Shirer expressed a personal opinion, like those from his diary, he made it blatantly clear that these were his impressions. So what I appreciated most about this book is that Shirer cited almost everything he wrote about (I wish they had used letters or numbers for the chapter endnotes instead of asterisks in the Kindle edition) and often included exact verbiage (translated from German, of course) from the documents he reviewed.While his coverage of the Fuhrer and his growing megalomania is frightening enough, I found that his reporting on Joseph Goebbels' role in creating an atmosphere of belief in the Nazis in Germany the most frightening--and foreboding--of all. Goebbels understood from the getgo that people believe what they want to believe, and he used this understanding effectively. Goebbels controlled ALL media, all messaging, all symbolism for the Reich. As a media professional myself, I was stunned at his ability, as early as the 1930s, to understand the power of popular media. Not only did he use thuggery to silence opposing views, but his media savvy in movie-making, radio broadcasts, timing, event-staging, and even bunting were used to inspire a demoralized population into believing or at least not contradicting the unthinkable. He successfully usurped music, philosophy, and even religion to create a mass delusion among the German people. In my opinion, this may have been one of the main reasons a decent population eventually was caught up in the whole hegemony of Hitler. Certainly, there are other important contributing factors--the economy, a weak government, the depression, etc.--but Goebbels leveraged all of this things to create the big lie that others, particularly the Jews and the Slavs--were responsible for the fate of Germany. To me, this insight has the most relevance for today when Hollywood creates its own version of history, where "journalists" have no problem slanting news (on both sides of the aisle) to their point of view, where politicians have no problems with telling people what they want to hear, and where both political parties have stooped to a level of name-calling and dehumanization of the other. These were tactics that were found in the political milieu of Nazi Germany. While we have not reached that level, it is important to understand just exactly what and how Goebbels created a societal belief that supported the war machine and extermination of so many innocent people. And part of that media message was always terror and intimidation.Besides this insight, Shirer provides us with personal glimpses into some of the key players of the Reich. He documents how "fateful" incidents impacted the decisions of the combatants' strategic decisions and the outcome of the war. The book is long and detailed but provides a good look at this unfortunate time in history. While most of the "greatest generation" have long since left this world, this book reminds us of the circumstances that created the twelve horrific years of the Third Reich. It is vital that we remember those years and the lessons learned from World War II. Unfortunately, I think many people will think the sheer volume of this book is overwhelming. But once into the book, I think readers will find it hard to put down. I know I did.

What is to say about this book. It should be considered among the most important books written. Well researched yet reads like it should, written by a journalist. The fact that Shirer was there adds to the intensity of the narrative. This should be required reading for any person seeking to understand the how the world can spiral into insanity. Particularly with the detailed accounts of the politics surrounding the diplomatic negotiations surrounding Austria, Czechoslovakia, and the invasion of Poland. If you are interested in the evolution of the fascist state read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. If you are interested in the implementation of the unthinkable, read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. If you want to understand how the Third Reich could happen, read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

This is a very interesting work -- I can hardly put it down. The problem is that the editors who "prepared" it for Kindle release, didn't. There are entire sections of the book out of place. You go along reading about complex and critical issues, and all of a sudden you are in an entirely different place and time dealing with a completely unrelated subject for a page or so, and then hop back to where you started. It is really irritating. I guess I think it's worthwhile to buy the book on Kindle, if only for the convenience of not having to lug a 1280 page book around, but if you want continuity and consistency, buy the book and skip the Kindle edition.

Before you start this book, please realize it is the second title in the series: you will need to read the first book in the series in order to understand the back story and the characters.The author picks up right where he left off with book one of the series. While this isn’t a hard science fiction tale or over complex from my usual science fiction reading stack it was enjoyable, has a lot of smart-alecky characters, and I am looking forward to the next one of the series. I picked this up for 99 cents during a Kindle promotion vs. the normal price of $2.99, and I believe I received more than $2.99 worth of entertainment value out of it: if you enjoyed the first book of this series I am confident you will like this one, also.

While the first couple chapters of book one were pretty typical and a bit slow, everything speeds up fast and doesn't stop. I am enjoying Jason Twingo Crusher Kage and especially Lucky 777. I have a real soft spot for him and all sentient AI. Great space sci fi but cannot call it an opera as there are virtually no females who play any significant roles. This is a missed opportunity for the depth and breadth of the series. Found a few little editing things. Just had to mention. I will follow but want a bit more SPICE!

*Note: I read this at request of author to give a review and feedback*I'll have to admit, at first I was groaning rather badly when I began the story, filled as it is with plot points from other scifi venues on tv. However, while the team created in the book is, like other reviewers have noted, reminiscent of the "A-Team," there is still enough fun to be culled from the varying perspectives brought in to make reading pleasurable even as the plot twists are rather non-intriguing. The human captain, lost as he is in a universe and crew of non-human beings, seems desperate to maintain some semblance of the earth-home he no longer has access to and this comes across in the writing. The seemingly silly human cursing and usage of culturally specific allusions serve to remind the reader of the very real angst living in such a world would bring up. That the crew attempts to mimic is endearing if a little odd at times. All in all the story moves along at a nice clip, pushed along nicely by quick dialogue, a minimum of world-building and some pretty fun action scenes. A good easy way to drift away for a few hours.

A great follow-up to the first story. Jason now has a solid crew to depend on as they travel about the galaxy helping people in need. The only problem they have is a lack of funds. A solution presents itself fairly quickly when they're approached to find out why civilian ships are being attacked in a particular system. Action and adventure ensues along with moments of humour. In this story we get to know the characters who we were only briefly introduced to in the first story. As others have noted, its the humour and banter between the crew which really lights upn his story, it makes them more relatable and gives you little glimpses of their characters. The action is fast paced, sometimes frantic, but never dull.Overall this is another page turner. I enjoyed all of it and ploughed through fairly quickly, buying the next book in the series immediately afterwards. We're getting to know the ship, it's crew and particularly the captain more and more with each novel. An easy read, great for YA or old readers. Cheap as chips too!

Great second book, but takes a while to get going. Hang in there, it does get going about 30% of the way through. I skipped this book and read all the way to OF6 (currently the last one), then thought what the heck, and went back to it. It introduces two characters, Christoff and his female ship captain who in this book is suspicious and resentful of Burke all the way through. Though she thaws in later novels, some suspicion remains. We get introduced here to the double dealing of the Con-Fed. But Christoff remains an enigma all the way through OF6, behaving out of character. We'll have to wait for OF7 to see if this is bad character development or some type of plot or mind control (hope not) or something. The series has a more complex long running backstory than you'd expect.

The first book was a setup for this, book two in the series. The first book introduced us to some very well-conceived protagonists, and here we really get to know them and the action really takes off. I've seen others refer to the series as "Firefly-like," which is only partially true. Although this book does follow a "wandering band of misfit mercenaries with a heart" theme, that's where the comparison ends. It's really nothing like the witty, taught, layered writing of Firefly because this is just straight-forward fun, and no apologies about it.Good characters, exciting plot, and so-so editing. What more could you really want in an action-packed romp through the universe?

I enjoyed this sequel so much, despite an initial reluctance, I felt that I owed at least a few comments out of appreciation. I loved the action of the large scale battles, small unit actions, and one-on-one encounters; also, the interplay among the free wheeling, yet honorable, Omega Force crew who are dedicated to their mission of altruism and, despite occasional differences as arose between Doc and Jason in this story, to each other. Watching Lucky evolve is, for me, particularly intriguing.I've already purchased four additional books and look forward to more frolicsome, deadly swashbuckling as well as, given the emergent working relationship with the Eshquarian Dalton, occasional future encounters involving Captains Burke and Colleren. I foresee my biggest problem may be avoiding spoilers from fellow fans of this series.In parting, offering full disclosure to potential nitpickers, I did notice more than a few typos - because I read every word, often going back when I realized I was getting ahead of myself - and they didn't' detract or distract from my enjoyment.

There used to be these people called editors. I don't know what they're up to these days, but If you are one, drop this guy a line - he could use you. Even just removing the "click here" and "in this post" references apparently left over from when this book was a blog would help. While he frequently admits he doesn't know if the terms he is using are actually words, he makes no such accommodation for the word "learnt", which is one of his favorites. Ouch. Aside from torturing the English language, this is only "complete" at the level of the Table of Contents. Mr. Thilakanathan does indeed manage to glide over a lot of topics in this book... without actually touching down on any of them. After reading this, you will know that a bunch of stuff exists, but you won't know what they are or how to use them. This is truly the view from 10.000 feet. There's some value in that, I suppose.

This book is riddled with grammatical errors. The tone is written as though it were a forum post. It's clear that English is not the author's first language and he didn't get anyone to edit or even proof-read it. And on top of all that, the content doesn't even live up to the title. It's not a "complete guide" of anything. All the author does is say what his favorite tools are and then tell the reader to watch YouTube videos to learn more. So you might as well save the time it would have taken you to read this book and just go straight to the videos.

Very simple, fast, and casually written. I wish there were more details, but this will get a beginner who's never touched a single design program started in a super basic way. Easy to work through. Some of the other reviews seem to be written as though they expected a huge and highly detailed technical document for Blender (a program that is not ordinarily taught in schools, nor is a huge industry standard) in a book that is around 20 dollars. They didn't get that, and they were silly to expect it.The book effectively walks you through a bit of what you need to know to start learning.

This book gave me a basic understanding of Blender's interface, core features and concepts. It bridged my knowledge level from knowing nothing about Blender to a confidence level where I can now use the tutorials and work productively with Blender. I was up, running and begun sculpting after investing 6 hours working through the book. I will further use this book along with a printed copy of the Blender Infographic Map by gludansky.com as a quick reference.

For the very low price I paid for it, its alright. Doesn't get too in depth with anything. I think better learning would be a project from start to finish and this book is just a bunch of individual examples. It doesn't all tie together to something decent. It gave me a very basic understanding of Blender, that's about it.

Enjoyed the format of the book. The e-book version was easily readable, with excellent screen grabs and descriptions of the text.

Danan really explains Blender in a easy to understand way. I enjoy his tutorials as well and also have a few other books he has put together. Great resource I will be using as my BLENDER skills increase. Thanks Danan.
