This is a great book, I have read it, and put it as one of the best reference books in my Ethiopian project I am publishing it recently. It is well organised, detail oriented, and very informative book. I recommend it highly, to any Ethiopian origins visiting a home country, or traveler tourists of any type. I used the book and I know Ethiopia very well, traveled almost to any parts of the country. I cross checked the book and it is reliable & excellent. I am still using the book as a reference to my project that I am working on Ethiopia.Besides, it is reasonably cheap to buy.
This book is organized in such a way that it nearly impossible to find information that is helpful. The history section is impossible; Ethiopia's history is complex and not well studied and the book should say so, but it does not. There is shockiing ignorance of Christianity -- which is fundamental to Ethiopia's culture. Overall, it is a puerile and unprofessional effort.

Not detailed enough to really understand the incredible diversity of Ethiopia. Background information inadequate. Bradt guide is much better. Good maps of the southern region.
Great book. Informative. I wanted to visit the area on my own, but to organise it myself. The book helped much to do this in a reasonable way.
This book got the job done for my one-week trip to Addis Ababa. The sections on history and culture were especially helpful. Hotel and restaurant listings could have been more up to date, which is why it gets four stars instead of five, but definitely worth buying if you are going to Ethiopia.
-easy to read and carry around-great reviews of budget hotels-chapter of Simien mountains not very impressive-maps could be better
